Tools #11

1. What are your favorite tools you now have in your personal technology toolbox? Briefly describe a particular activity that you will plan for your students using at least one of these new tools.

I anticipate using google docs for some self assessment before quizzes and tests. I would like to develop an automated method for students to make videos to present projects. This would allow students to become contributors.

2. How have you transformed your thinking about the learning that will take place in your classroom? How has your vision for your classroom changed? Are you going to need to make any changes to your classroom to accommodate the 21st Century learner?

My thinking has not changed. I have always been interested in technology in my classroom.
3. Were there any unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you?

Not really.

Tools #10

I believe digital safety and citizenship is crucial so that our students don't fall into the hands of a cyberbully or anyone else with dangerous intentions.

I think that the school filters are often an obstruction to gathering information about health topics and their will need to be some improvements or exceptions to the filtering of sites to allow exploration of topics. I find myself blocked on a teacher account for sites that have instructional value.

I-Safe factsheet from TxSSC (Texas School Safety Center). will help me develop class policies.

I plan to refer parents to SBISD technology resources for issues / policies about digital citizenship

Tools #9

We should hold students accountable at the stations so that they can obtain the full benefits of using the stations. If they aren't accountable then sooner or later the stations will not be useful due to them being destroyed or the fact that they aren't staying on task because of a lack of accountability.

Coaches' Eye and Animoto would be two applications that I could use in which the camera on the iPad/iPod could help me capture the way students move and display it to them.

Student's could use Coaches' Eye to capture their partner moving while working on form running. Then they could talk about the proper mechanics of form running and record them again. They could display the assignment in Animoto so that they can compare and contrast the differences.

I could also use the iPad to get quick breakdowns of technique issues during my offseason practices. Then I can have immediate feedback to show players when their technique is slipping.

TOOL # 8

Netbooks:  They are much lighter and more mobile than the other devices.  I like the idea of the web cam being available on top.  We can never have enough  usb ports.  The card reader is useful.

IPADS:  I will now have to create another account in Itunes to manage my aps.
SBISD ed tech web site has appropriate different apps for my grade level and subject area.

Management:  This poses a problem with space and overcrowed classrooms.  How do we put in a station? The Ipads and netbooks, but this is barely a dent considering the number of students we have.  For disadvantaged students these are a blessing.
